Having an intruder alarm system installed in your home needn’t be disruptive, it should all be a relatively straightforward process - but that can depend upon who is assigned to carry out the work.

How Long Does It Take to Install a Burglar Alarm System?

The size of the property, taking into account both the internal and external areas that need securing can make a difference as to how long the installation will take.

However typically, the intruder alarm installation should last anywhere between 1-2 days, depending on the type of home alarm system that you select.

Wired Intruder Alarms

If you are having a wired system installed, this is likely to require running cables through walls and involve a certain degree of drilling, with an associated level of noise and disruption. Wired installations tend to take a little longer as a result. Once completed and all the checks have been made to ensure everything is working properly, a reputable installer should ensure that any mess and detritus is cleared away from your property. It shouldn’t be left for you to clean up afterwards!

Wireless Systems

With wireless systems, the installation process tends to be less disruptive because there’s little need for cabling and drilling, reducing mess.

Unless you are a dab hand with electrical work (and have the technical capability to fit an intruder alarm yourself) 99 times out of a 100 you’ll be better off engaging the services of an accredited installer to carry out the work for you.

Not only should they undertake a free site survey at the outset and recommend the best security measures for your specific requirements, they’ll also be able to handle the installation more quickly and efficiently, with minimum disruption.

Intruder Alarm Service and Maintenance

In terms of upheaval, the only other thing you need to consider is making time for regular service and maintenance. As part of their contractual obligations to ensure the equipment remains in optimal condition at all times, an accredited intruder alarm installer will schedule an annual service call to check that all sensors, sounders and batteries are working efficiently.

In Summary…

The installation of a modern intruder alarm system for your home should result in minimal upheaval and disruption to your daily schedule.

Depending on its complexity, you should allow between ½ a day to 2 days to carry out the work – but we’ll be able to confirm how long the installation will take at the time of the survey.
