About Leamington Spa
Royal Leamington Spa, commonly known as Leamington Spa, or simply Leamington, is a spa town in Warwickshire, situated around 9 miles south of Coventry and 20 miles south-east of Birmingham. Named after the River Leam that flows through the town, it evolved into a spa town during the 18th century following the popularisation of its water, which was reputed to have medicinal qualities. As a result of this, in the 19th century, the town experienced one of the most rapid expansions in England.
The town contains especially fine ensembles of Regency architecture, particularly around the Parade, Clarendon Square and Lansdowne Circus.
Leamington is adjoined with the neighbouring towns of Warwick, Whitnash and the village of Cubbington. Together, they form the conurbation known as the "Royal Leamington Spa Built-up area". Collectively, the population stood at 95,172, according to the 2011 census.
