If you are running a busy kitchen, it’s often all hands on the pump. With hungry, expectant customers waiting to be fed, it’s frequently a full-on environment where focus and concentration are both vital ingredients.

Whilst service takes centre stage, it’s equally important to remember that a commercial kitchen – whether it be in a hotel, bar, restaurant or local takeaway – is a potentially dangerous place to work. Open flames, hot cooking oils, heated surfaces and ovens – there are plenty of sources of potential flash points.

Ensuring you have the appropriate fire suppression equipment always has to be a top priority. It isn’t something to take lightly. Lives and the very business itself could depend on the correct fire-fighting equipment installed.

Will insurance be invalidated without the correct kitchen fire suppression systems?

Almost certainly. Given that kitchen fires pose such a risk, fire suppression systems are increasingly being specified by insurers. It is worth checking what the stipulations are with your own insurance company, but the likelihood is, that they will require regulatory equipment to be in place to provide you with cover.

What kitchen fire suppression equipment do you install?

Justice Fire & Security are accredited installers of the PAFSS ® KitchenGuard system. Designed and manufactured in the UK, this innovative system is dedicated to the protection of catering equipment, in accordance with LPS 1223. KitchenGuard is automatic, so that for detection and activation, it doesn’t need any mechanical or power supply. Crucially, it will function during any interruption to power.

How does the PAFFS ® KitchenGuard work?

A linear pressurised detection tubing is installed around the protected area. If a fire starts, the tubing melts, causing a pressure drop, which opens the cylinder valve, releasing the extinguishing agent via stainless steel pipework and nozzles into the affected area or areas. The system can also be operated by a separate manual actuator.

It is a well-engineered, fast response system that isn’t compromised by kitchen oil, grease or dirt.

Where can KitchenGuard be installed?

The system is suited to a wide range of environments, encompassing:

  • Restaurants
  • Pub Kitchens
  • Fast Food Outlets
  • Hotels
  • Cafés
  • Commercial Kitchens in Offices and Warehouses
  • Schools and Colleagues
  • Residential and Care Homes
  • Hospitals
  • Student Accommodation
