An unexpected bonus of moving house is that it might already be fitted with a burglar alarm system. It’s unlikely to be the case if it’s a brand-new home, but with any property that has had previous owners, you may find it’s been alarmed in some shape or form.

Of course, the people you buy the property from may disconnect it and take it with them. However, if they don’t intend to remove it, you may be fortunate to be left with a fully operational alarm handed over with easy-to-understand instructions.

But that’s in an ideal world…

Unless you are familiar with the home alarm system you’ve inherited, it could be something of a mixed blessing taking over someone else’s home security equipment. Does this system work properly, is it reliable and is it straightforward to operate?

You might be about to find out…

If you don’t have any of the access codes, or the instructions you’ve been left with would be enough to flummox a NASA scientist, the home alarm system may be of little use in its current state.

And, even if you are able to operate the system, who’s to say whether it is programmed to suit your specific requirements. What if you have pets and discover that the system keeps being wrongly triggered when they walk past a sensor? This can especially be the case with older, more temperamental intruder alarm systems.

Unwanted activations could soon turn into a nightmare for you and anyone living close by.

Here’s what to do if you have an out-of-control or unmanageable home alarm system

Give us a call. We frequently receive enquiries from homeowners who’ve inherited alarm systems that either don’t work properly or are proving to be extremely difficult to operate.

But rest assured, help is at hand. Our engineers are highly skilled and will be able to find a solution for you.

They’ll carry out a maintenance inspection and do any reprogramming that might be required. Also, all the batteries and sensors will be tested, to see if they are working correctly.

They will also let you know if the system needs any upgrades (especially if the system is quite old) and the best course of action regarding on-going service and maintenance.

This should have been handled by the original burglar alarm installers, but if they are no longer in business or are unable to maintain the system, we can take it over, keeping it regularly serviced, for 24-hour home alarm monitoring and helping prolong its active life.

Above all, we will leave you with an operational system and show you how to operate the equipment with confidence, so that it actually serves its purpose of providing your home with round-the-clock protection.
